Alliance Creates the Nation’s Largest Independent Online Retailer of Beauty and Skin-Care Products with over One Million Customers
NEW YORK, NY (March 23, 2009) — Sandow Media, parent company of NewBeauty magazine and e-commerce Web site Spalook.com, and Salu Beauty, parent company of SkinStore.com, today announced a partnership to deliver unprecedented scale and reach for beauty product manufacturers. This powerful new alliance will result in lower costs for beauty manufacturers and increased education and safe, secure online purchasing options for consumers.
While the companies will maintain separate ownership, Web sites and storefronts, this new alliance will consolidate all back-office operations, such as accounting, merchandising, inventory management, purchasing and technology operations. Efficiency will be maximized through a state-of-the-art, streamlined shipping facility and an expanded customer care center, including a team of highly trained, expert aestheticians to service over 1 million active customers.
“This partnership will give both companies greater economies of scale, allowing both to focus on many new innovative marketing programs for our beauty partners, which is key to our aggressive expansion plan,” comments Sandow Media CEO Adam l. Sandow. “Jim Steeb and his team at SkinStore.com have done an unprecedented job in building their business and becoming the clear pure-play market leader. We are excited about the prospects of this unique relationship and the growth that will come from it.”
“This groundbreaking alliance will allow NewBeauty magazine the ability to drive increased ROI for our advertisers, reach new readers and continue to position the magazine as the trusted beauty resource,” adds Sandow. “Whether a reader buys from SpaLook.com, SkinStore.com, department or specialty stores, our top priority is to make sure they are educated consumers.”
“For years we have partnered with our beauty brands on creative marketing approaches, and our new alliance with NewBeauty will bring that to a new level. Brands that have been questioning their online strategy now have a single source for the highest-quality brand building, both offline and online in a secure and trusted environment with extensive educational content,” comments Jim Steeb, CEO of Salu Beauty. “Our alliance with Sandow Media gives us access to the best beauty content in the business, differentiating SkinStore.com and SpaLook.com from other online competitors.”
An additional key element of the new alliance is the introduction of a groundbreaking NewBeauty online platform to be launched later in 2009. The goal, according to Sandow, is to change the way people shop for and learn about beauty. The magazine will employ its proprietary strategy of “Learn, Try, Buy” to reach new levels for its advertising partners by helping them to “Brand, Sample and Retail” beauty products on a single platform. Utilizing the powerful momentum of NewBeauty magazine and the success of its product-sampling program, the NewBeauty TestTube, there is no other retailer or publication that is better positioned to help beauty companies compete in the increasingly competitive and complex marketplace.
